Gatlinburg, Tennessee

In January of 2013, I had the opportunity to meet 7 other women in Gatlinburg, TN.  I was joined by two girls from Florida, one who had never seen snow, two from Alabama, one from Mississippi, one from Virginia and one from Colorado.  What an adventure!  The great smokey mountains are proof of God's greatness.  I'll leave out some of the events where we were higher'n a Georgia pine and focus on the things to do and the great places we were able to find.

First of all, it was snowing to beat the band by the time I got to Asheville, NC, by car.  Now, I'm a beach girl so mountain terrain is not familiar to me.  After many hours of travel (should have only been 4), we had to get the 'snow-plow' guy to come down the mountain and get me and deposit me safely at our cabin.

Gatlinburg, TN has so much to offer the vacationer.  The snow stopped the next morning and we were able to visit the downtown area and see the riverwalk.  There's lots of shopping and restuarants in the quaint little town and I think we stopped in every one of them.  There was a cheerleader conference and a church conference so it was a hopping little place.

I think our favorite place was the The Moonshine Store.  Have you ever had cherries soaked in Moonshine? They sell all different flavors of legal moonshine.  They also have dips and homemade sauces.  The best part is you can sample, sample, sample.  (if you have an id)  Yea, yea, I know I'm over 50 and had to walk back to the parking deck to prove that!  I could have kissed that girl!

Later in the week, we went to OberGatlinburg.  That place is like a small city with ski slopes, snow tubing, ice skating, shopping, food......   We had a great time.  Lots of the shops had Christmas stuff marked way way down since it was January.  Most of the girls did the snow tubing and had a blast.  Check them out and plan a visit.

It was a great trip and I highly recommend a visit.  Hope you have as much fun as we did.  Tell me about your favorite vacation?

  9. I love when people come to my state and have a great time! The Smokey Mountains are a great place to visit! I am so jealous you got to play in the snow, as I haven't touched snow in years. Thanks for the great post, and for making me homesick!

  11. I love visiting the Smokies around Gatlinburg. There is so much to do, no matter your interest. It is very beutiful in the winter (Jan and Feb are the 'off season') but also in the summer. Hiking, horseback riding, tubing... there are also some scenic drives in and around the area:cades Cove, Roaring Forks, and Catalouchee Valley to see wildlife (including elk). I enjoyed the review, I enjoyed the trip, I enjoy Tennessee!

  19. My hubby and I visit Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge like once every 18 months. We just spent this past Christmas in a cabin in the Smoky Mountains (Sky Harbor Resort area) which was our first time seeing snow while there.. Beautiful!
